Industry: Robotics / AGV / AMR
Customer Background:
A mobile robot manufacturer producing warehouse AGVs for logistics customers in Europe and North America.
Challenge
AGVs operate continuously inside warehouses, exposing cables and connectors to repeated bending, torsion and vibration.
The customer faced two major problems:
- Cables inside the drag chain failed after approximately 300,000 bending cycles.
- Poor shielding caused signal interruptions when AGVs passed near high-voltage inverters.
Space inside the AGV chassis was also limited, requiring a compact connection solution.
Our Solution
Shanwei Link supplied:
- High-flex TPU-jacketed M12 shielded cable assemblies rated for 10 million bending cycles.
- M12 X-coded connectors for Gigabit Ethernet communication between the AGV controller and onboard camera.
- M12 L-coded power connectors for 48 V DC battery distribution.
We also worked with the customer’s mechanical engineer to customize cable lengths and connector orientations to fit the restricted chassis space and avoid interference with the battery module.
Results
- Cable bending life increased from approximately 300,000 to more than 10 million cycles.
- EMC-related signal interruptions were eliminated, and camera transmission remained stable near inverters.
- The customized layout reduced installation space inside the AGV by 30%.
- The solution was subsequently adopted across the customer’s AMR product line.
